Overview
A lagoon pool is a swimming pool that is designed not to look like one. The shell is free-form, the edges are soft, the entry is often a gradual beach rather than steps, and the surround uses natural stone and planting instead of tile and coping. Underneath, it is still a properly engineered pool — structural shell, waterproofing, filtration and circulation all built to the same standard as a conventional pool, because water that is not moving and not filtered turns green regardless of how natural it looks.
This service is for homeowners with the garden space to make a pool feel like part of the landscape, and for farmhouse and resort projects where a naturalistic water body suits the setting better than a rectangular pool.
PBJ’s approach
PBJ Infra designs the lagoon form, the beach-entry grading, the rockwork and the planting together with the pool structure and filtration — in one 3D model — so the boulders sit on the structure correctly and the planted margins do not interfere with the skimming and circulation. This is the same in-house team and the same filtration discipline as PBJ’s swimming pool construction; the lagoon look is a finishing and landscaping layer over sound pool engineering.
Technical considerations
- Circulation in a free-form shell: inlets and skimmers are positioned so an irregular shape still turns its water over fully, with no dead corners.
- Beach entries: the shallow zone needs its own drainage and a slip-resistant finish, and it changes the total water volume the filtration must handle.
- Rockwork: boulder edges are set on the structure, not just placed, and detailed so water does not track behind them.
- Planting: planted margins are separated from the pool water unless a full natural-pool regeneration system is specified.
